Duke Silver... not my boyfriend, but Ron Swanson |
I don't write a lot about him, except when we're out and about. As public as this blog is, it's kind of something I keep to myself. I've been blogging for years, and previously I was more forthcoming about love. As I get older, I guess I see the value of saying less about some things.
But today, on this big day for my guy, I have to open up.
Duke was a friend when I needed only a friend. He grew to become one of the most steadfast and good people in my life, quite unexpectedly and on accident. He understands me when I'm crazy and silly and even sad. We both have our scars from the past, but we help each other through.
Neither of us are each other's "type", which is funny sometimes. He listens to metal (including viking death metal), enjoys craft beer, and wears mostly black. I listen to pop, prefer fruity cocktails and wine, and wear every color under the sun. And that's not even the half of our differences. But it works for us. (We both love cats... that is something!)
I never know what the future is going to hold; I've stopped believing in traditional paths and institutions. But I know that I am so lucky and happy to have Duke by my side. He is love.
And I hope to see him through many more birthdays to come.
