My Life in GIFs, Vol. 1

As I've been spending some time lately catching up with old friends, conversations have led to a lot of  questions.  It made me want to do a blog post of GIFs, based on where I am in my life right now.  Snark alert, BTW.  Sorry not sorry.  Because GIFs.  I think I'm going to do this more often.

When people ask me what caused my divorce, I want to be like...

When my conservative friends find out I have a live-in boyfriend, they're like...

When my married friends ask me when I'm going to get engaged, they want me to be like...

Or...

But really, I'm like...

When they talk about how meaningless life was before their husband/children, I'm like...

When I tell them that I'll probably have a kid before I get married, they're like...

When people ask me if I'm enjoying my post-Army career, I'm like...

And when people who don't get me tell me that I should spend less time blogging
and more time in the "real world", I'm like...

    1. Oh, there will be more Blair Waldorf GIFs. She is my GG spirit animal. :) It's a great way to be passive aggressive, building a post out of funny GIFs.

  2. ..How meaningless their life was before kids/children…RUDE!! Who does that?

And while there is some venting, please let me join in. Is it me, or am I the only person on this planet who is sick of being told by parents that I don't understand what it is like to be a parent? Newsflash people, I have never once said I do understand what it is like. I don't pretend to understand. I KNOW I don't know what it's like to be a parent. I don't insult you by trying to compare stories of my dogs to your kids. So please stop rubbing it in my face that I'm going around acting like I do. Vent over.

    1. Tons of people do that, but they don't even realize it. It starts innocently enough, like, "You know, having children has been challenging, but I couldn't imagine anything more worthwhile." Or "Children require a lot of sacrifices, but they are more fulfilling than a career could ever be." Or "It just seems so selfish to spend money on myself instead of my children. It's a selfish lifestyle to do that." Little jabs.

I totally get you on the parenting front thing though. People feel like you don't have a right to an opinion if you haven't walked in their shoes... but then they shouldn't ask you for your opinion/reaction if they aren't going to like your response.

    2. I can understand that, but here's the thing...nobody is asking my opinions, but I'm not giving them either, and I'm still being told I have no idea. Yes, I know..you didn't need to tell me. I'm sure parents would totally not appreciate it if I was always reminding them they have no idea what it's like to be able to sleep in/do whatever I want/ spend whatever I want on myself all the time. Double standard.

  3. sometimes i forget what a heathen i am— living in sin, planning to remain childless... how will i ever have a fulfilling life?! ;)

on what planet is recognizing that you* hate children and don't have the patience for them a bad thing? like maybe it's selfish that i don't want kids but maybe i know that and i am okay with it?

i personally get a little defensive when people say i don't understand how hard being a parent is. i have helped raise 4+ babies/children since before i was 12 so yeah, i actually do know it's hard being a parent and that is exactly why i am choosing *not* to do it.

anyway, i like you and i like this post and i think your are great and doing wonderful things!

*figurative you, i'm obviously talking about me ;)

    1. Jenna, I hear you! I love my friends and their kids, and I want my own kids someday, I am just exhausted by people judging the choices I make because they differ from their own.

I also think it's great when people who don't want kids choose not to have them. I mean, why force something that doesn't make sense for you? Why fit into some societal expectation? Life is yours, lady!
