Kaelah's Quiz Meme

Back in the day when I was on Diaryland, LiveJournal, even the now-defunct AubreyAnn.com, I loved doing the occasional quiz meme.  Then Kaelah did one on her blog, and I was like, let's do this!  Because Kaelah is awesome and sometimes it's fun to get inspiration from someone else for a blog post.

1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Okay, this sounds pathetic... but I totally do a quick iPhone check of Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Poshmark to see what I missed while I was asleep.   I stay under the covers and scroll-scroll-scroll.  Helps me wake up.

2. What is the 3rd picture on your phone? Share it! 
I am always deleting pictures from my phone's Camera Roll, because once I upload them to iPhoto on my Mac I sort my favorites into special Albums for my phone.  I know, dork.  But this one just happened to be 3rd on the Camera Roll, a little clay Hello Kitty dressed as an Army captain that a military spouse made for me.  I was leaving Army (read this in your best Buster Bluth voice) and Hello Kitty was my unofficial mascot while I served.  She made me this to remember my time there.

3. What TV show are you most excited about returning this Fall?
Downton Abbey (totally watching with the Brits, sorry not sorry), American Horror Story, Parks & Recreation, and Revenge.  Those aren't all the shows I watch, but they are the ones I missed the most in the off-season!

4. What is something really popular that you secretly (or not so secretly) loathe?
There are two: Breaking Bad and Dexter.  I totally gave each show a couple of seasons to try, and I just quit. They didn't make me feel good.  I know TV isn't always supposed to make you feel good (I do watch AHS after all) but I just didn't get into them.  Something about those meth dealers and serial killers...

5. Do you have any pets? Tell us about them! Bonus points for pictures.
WolfBear LionShark, the Maine Coon mix kitten!  He's currently less than a year old (and already a big boy) going through terrible kitten crazies.  We call him Bear, Wolfington Bear, Baby Bear... lots of silly nicknames.

6. If you could put together one outfit that represents you perfectly, what would it be?
I don't know that I have really defined my sense of style, but I feel my best in a fit & flare, A-line dress like the ones on ModCloth.  Usually belted with a cardigan.

7. What is your favorite adult beverage?
A grapefruit martini with sugar on the rim... it's my favorite in summer!  I also have always had a thing for amaretto sours.

8. What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Pop music.  Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, stuff like that.

9. What are 3 positive words to describe you?
Chatty, dorky, hungry.  :)

10. What is your favorite Friday afternoon/evening activity?
Friday evenings are super tame for me... Duke is usually working, so Friday night I make myself dinner at home, work on my MBA homework, and indulge in a magazine, good book, or a little Doctor Who before bed.  It isn't sexy, but it helps me unwind and get some homework done so I can spend weekend time with Duke and Bear.

11. A day in the life: What does you typical day look like?
I wake up around 6:30am, and if I'm motivated I attempt to work out.  But most mornings I don't, so I shuffle around making a quick breakfast (eggs and turkey bacon usually), get dressed, do a 5-minute face and ponytail, and work on my blog for a little while.  Around 8am I hop in the car and head to work.  I am done around 5:30pm, when I head home or to one of my various activities (DAR, American Legion, Heritage Foundation).  In the evening, I typically eat at home, then have an MBA lecture, reading, or homework time.  If it's not a homework night (typically when Duke is home) we watch TV and hang out on the sofa until bedtime for me, around 10:30pm.  I read a little while my melatonin kicks in, then it's off to dreamland!  (I know, so exciting.)

12. If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be?
Southern France.  Someplace walking distance (or biking distance) of a cute village with shops and whatnot, but not too far from a train line to other places in France and Europe.  A quiet life filled with baguettes and croissants, plus some wine.  And my man, of course.  Basically I want to be Julia Child in the south of France with her cats and food.

13. You've got a whole day to yourself...what will you do?
I'll sleep in until about 8am, then curl up on the sofa in my robe and read a book or watch some Netflix junk.  Around lunch I'll get dressed and head out, eat at a local favorite spot, and stop by the library or Target for some mindless wandering and browsing.  I'll take some time in the afternoon to call a friend to catch up, and also for a solid nap.  Later I'll tidy up the house (I like a little neatness) and maybe work on something like a blog post, dust off a sewing project, or cook a new recipe.  I would probably also do some grooming, shaping eyebrows and painting my nails. :)

14. Dream job?
I'm not sure...  Being Samantha Brown on Travel Channel?  Being a paid tour guide to take people on trips around the world?  Writing about it?  Something like that, but I'd want breaks so I don't get exhausted.

15. Least favorite chore?
Cleaning showers and toilets.  Which is why I hired a maid.  And cleaning ovens.

16. When do you most feel like a rock star?
When I get recognized for my work or an accomplishment by someone else.  I am my own worst critic, so getting that reassurance makes me feel great.

17. What is something you are currently trying to improve within yourself?
Being less distracted, being THERE.  I need to pay more attention in lectures and meetings, not letting myself get bored or impatient.  I also want to spend less time on my phone when I'm in social situations.  I don't want to miss what's going on around me.
